The role of Associate is to analyze and make recommendations on investment opportunities, conduct market and technology analysis, research specific industry topics, work closely with the rest of the investment team and support Chrysalix's portfolio companies. 20% of time will involve travel.

Responsibilities

  • Generates investment opportunities.
  • Conducts preliminary analysis of business plans to assess the potential risks and rewards of investment opportunities. Makes recommendations to proceed with due diligence or not.
  • Conducts due diligence (financial, market, legal, competitive and technical, etc. analysis and evaluation), makes recommendation for or against investment.
  • Participates in development of investment criteria, strategy, and investment thesis through deep dive analysis of potential venture investment target areas, technologies, business models, and markets.
  • Develops financial models used for valuation, scenario analysis, evaluation, recommendation and selection of portfolio clients and management of current investments.
  • Develops and maintains a wide range of contacts through conferences, research and networking, of people within the venture investment, banking, high-tech and alternate energy industry.
  • Keeps current on cutting edge industry developments, provides feedback to management.
  • Provides ongoing assistance to limited partners and other Chrysalix stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

  • MBA with Undergraduate or Masters Degree in science or engineering.
  • Backgrounds in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, material science, chemistry and oil / gas industry are especially relevant.
  • At least 3 years business experience such as in strategic planning, operations, marketing, technology, product management, and/or finance.
  • Passion for entrepreneurship, energy and clean technology, as well as startup company experience highly valued.
  • Excellent analysis, valuation and modeling skills and ability to synthesize data into coherent frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to create relationships with senior management and work with these relationships to further business objectives.
  • Good familiarity with financial markets, venture capital and project finance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Very strong skills in general computing. Excel modeling, PowerPoint, and database management are used in the position.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced team environment.
  • Clear drive, initiative, and self direction.
