Director Product Development – Nano-optics (Vancouver) ***HOLD***

Our client is a leading innovator of nano-optic image technologies used in a wide variety of applications, including security and protection. They have patented technologies and currently moving their extensive research into production phase. While they are rapidly expanding their Vancouver and Ontario teams, our current focus is to hire a Director of Product Development to help them bring their product to market.  

Primary Responsibilities:

We are looking for a leader who has experience developing innovative technologies into commercial products. This role will require a combination of hands-on science and leadership. The Director will focus on perfecting our existing core micro and nano-optical devices for commercial production and developing new optical devices to strengthen our technology leadership.

The Director will be responsible for the design of new micro and nano-optical devices, simulation and optimization of existing micro and nano-optical devices. Execution of experiments, analysis of results, and technical report writing are all required skill sets. The candidate will work with a research team of scientists to accomplish technical objectives and must be able to set measurable goals and meet them along with mentoring team members.

Primary Requirements:

·         An advanced degree in electrical engineering, physics or equivalent.
·         A minimum of five years progressively responsible scientific or engineering positions with leadership experience. Knowledge of electromagnetic design and simulation for nano-photonic structures using FDTD or Finite Element methods is a requisite.
·         Experience transferring novel technology into industrial readiness. Strong working knowledge of micro and nano-optics and image processing. 
·         Strong ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, with the ability to adapt content and style to various audiences.  Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster collaborative working relationships among internal teams and external stakeholders.
·         Positive, dedicated, self-driven, hard-working professional.  Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks – often under pressure with shifting priorities. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, under tight deadlines.  Have a great sense of humour.
·         Excellent understanding of MS Office, Matlab and Python programming languages. 

 The position is based in Vancouver BC, and if not currently local, we are looking for someone that will be open to relocating to Vancouver. At this point we will only be able to entertain candidates with legal status in Canada.
