Site Reliability Engineer – ElasticSearch (Downtown Vancouver)

Our client makes complex communication and collaboration at enterprise level efficient without getting in the way of the transaction itself. They do this by delivering a mission critical cloud application that integrates context and collaboration directly into the communication experience.

As a site reliability engineer, your overarching goal involves maintaining our customers’ confidence by keeping our product fast and reliable. The performance and speed of our application is a core attribute. We're looking for someone who helps us continue to achieve this as we grow rapidly.

Background

·         You write it, you run it: our developers write a service and then they operate it. We can use your help in running it better

·         Build for Operability: What started as a Backbone.js and Node.js + Express app, has moved towards React and Kotlin + Dropwizard. We’re taking lessons from 12factor.net along with it.

·         Infrastructure as Code: We want things to be simple and repeatable. Everything should be done through configuration management and orchestration (Ansible + Cloudformation).

Responsibilities:

·         Provide the leadership in scaling our search platform. Search powers our business. Help us own it.

·         Partner with the product team in implementing and publicizing service level metrics and objectives that act as health indicators of the application.

·         Mentor and join the development team on rotation to instrument the application for resiliency and visibility.

·         Improve our existing infrastructure as well as participate in designing new components such that our product remains highly available and meets the growing demands of our system.

·         Proactively work towards improving our system’s resiliency and reducing our response time on incidents.

Requirements:

·         You know Elasticsearch and have experience helping companies diagnose, assess, and improve their implementation.

·         You have experience debugging distributed systems and you are familiar with optimising applications for throughput and latency.

·         You are a language polyglot. Our product spans multiple programming languages and you have an ability to pick up new frameworks quickly.

·         You have experience in helping companies build better, scalable, and sustainable infrastructure on AWS.

·         You have a passion for working with others and have served as an internal evangelist for driving the cultural changes needed to support a scaling start up.
